Job Description
Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for talented individuals with relevant skills and experience for a Utilities Operator: Boiler role, which is based in Devland.

Key Purpose
Operation and monitoring of steam boilers and associated systems
Execution of boiler house safety checks and standard operating procedures
Basic maintenance and fault identification
Accurate logging and reporting of boiler performance and anomalies
Compliance with statutory regulations (e.g. Pressure Equipment Regulations)
Steam system start-up, shutdown, and operational adjustments
Water chemistry and treatment understanding
Emergency response protocols for boiler operations
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Key Outcomes:
Boiler Operation and Monitoring
Operate and monitor steam boilers, ensuring optimal pressure and temperature levels are maintained.
Carry out pre-start, start-up, normal operation, and shutdown procedures safely and correctly.
Adjust controls to regulate fuel, air, and water feed to maintain efficient combustion and steam output.
Boiler House Inspections and Checks
Perform routine boiler inspections and housekeeping in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Monitor and maintain boiler instrumentation, control panels, and safety devices.
Log and report operational parameters (e.g. steam pressure, water level, fuel consumption) hourly or as required.
Compliance and Safety
Ensure full compliance with the OHS Act, Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER), and internal safety protocols.
Carry out safety tests and support statutory inspections by certified inspectors.
Maintain boiler certificates and documentation in line with regulatory and audit requirements
Basic Maintenance and Reporting
Conduct first-line maintenance and report faults or abnormalities to the Team Leader: Utilities.
Assist artisans during shutdowns and planned maintenance tasks.
Ensure tools, spare parts, and boiler house are maintained in a clean, safe condition.
Operational Efficiency and Support
Monitor fuel and water usage and report anomalies or excessive consumption.
Maintain water treatment parameters by coordinating with service providers or technical support.
Support utility team in other areas (e.g. compressors, refrigeration) as needed under supervision.

Boiler uptime and availability (%)
Steam supply reliability (uninterrupted to production)
Boiler efficiency (fuel and water consumption vs. targets)
Number of boiler-related unplanned stoppages
Compliance with statutory inspections and safety audits
Safety incident frequency (zero harm objective)
Logbook and documentation accuracy and completeness
Skills, Experience & Education
Education
Minimum: Grade 12 with Maths and Science
Required Certification: Valid Boiler Operator Certificate (Minimum Second Class) issued by an accredited institution
Relevant trade certificate (advantageous, e.g., Fitter, Millwright)
Experience
2–3 years’ experience operating industrial steam boilers in a manufacturing environment
Exposure to boiler water treatment practices
Familiarity with high-pressure steam systems and operational safety procedures
Experience in FMCG, beverage, or food production industry (preferred)
Skills
Operation of coal, oil, or gas-fired boilers and associated equipment
Interpretation of boiler performance parameters and control readings
Basic knowledge of boiler water chemistry and treatment
Understanding of mechanical systems including pumps, valves, and gauges
Use of logbooks and compliance documentation
Basic troubleshooting and maintenance
Knowledge of applicable legislation: OHS Act, Pressure Equipment
Regulations
Computer literacy (basic MS Excel for logging/reporting advantageous)
