Standard Bank’s Learnership Programmes are designed to address youth unemployment in South Africa by providing young people with structured, practical work
experience
alongside formal training, while also building a strong and sustainable talent pipeline of future-ready employees aligned to the bank’s values and business needs.
As part of this development pathway, the Occupational Certificate: Data Science Practitioner qualification serves as the foundational entry-level certification for aspiring internal auditors, combining focused training modules with structured workplace
experience
to equip candidates with the essential knowledge and practical
skills
needed to start or enhance their careers in internal auditing.
By the end of the programme, you will have gained exposure to and developed
skills
in:
- Supporting senior team members in defining small, well-scoped data analysis tasks aligned to audit objectives
- Executing predefined analytical procedures to test specific aspects of audit areas using data (e.g., identifying anomalies and validating controls through datasets)
- Identifying and highlighting key findings, including control gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost reduction or improved performance
- Developing and communicating simple, evidence-based recommendations grounded in data analysis
- Organising and maintaining datasets, code, and visual outputs in a structured and reproducible manner to support audit findings
- Ensuring adherence to all group standards, policies, and data governance
requirements
- Effectively prioritising tasks and managing time to meet deliverables and deadlines
Qualifications
An undergraduate qualification in one of the following (or a related discipline):
- Information Technology or Computer Science
- Data Science
- Statistics or Mathematics
- Econometrics / Quantitative Analysis
- Engineering
Additional Information
MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must be under 30 years of age.
- Must be able to speak, read and write English
- Not be registered on any other learnership or internship programme
- Not be studying at any other institution
